Kensington and Chelsea Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service has a base at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, where it supports the accident and emergency (A&E) service as well as accepting referrals.
We work with people from birth until their eighteenth birthday. We accept referrals from professionals such as GPs, schools and social services, but we also accept referrals directly from young people and their families.
Child and adolescent mental health teams are made up of different professionals who have been trained to work with children, young people and their families. Our teams consist of child psychiatrists, psychologists, psychotherapists, art therapists, family therapists and nurses.
We work together to offer a diagnostic service and a range of individual and family interventions. At the first appointment we usually like to meet with the whole family and also spend time with the young person on their own. We work between 09:00 and 17:00 on weekdays but do try to offer appointments at times that are more convenient to families.
We do a lot of work with families and in a multi-cultural borough like Kensington and Chelsea we are used to meeting and working with families where English is not their first language.
We are always interested in hearing what children, young people and families think. As part of the assessment and treatment we ask for feedback about how you think things are progressing and if you are feeling better.
We also work with other agencies in the borough and if we feel that we are not the right service to help you, we will direct you to other services that may be able to help.
