The Wellness Day was held at Warranty House on 17 April 2014. Staff were pleased to have 13 young people attend and join in with a range of games, discussions and activities.
The group thought about ways to feel good and stay well. Topics of the day included healthy eating, exercise, relaxation and sleep.
Organisations in the local area, including Addaction (a drugs service for young people) and Creative Minds (a peer mentoring service), set up stalls. Young people were able to talk directly to professionals from these organisations and take home interesting leaflets and relevant information.
Brent CAMHS asked the young people to complete an evaluation form, so staff could learn what they had enjoyed, found useful and what they would change. The young people fed back that they enjoyed learning new skills. They found the group discussions and the opportunity to meet others with similar experiences the most helpful aspect of the day. They said that if they could change anything, they would want a greater number of activities to be available.
When asked which topic they enjoyed the most, some of the young people said sleep because “it is a topic that affects a lot of young people” and “we were given lots of tips to sleep easier which was very helpful.” Another said relaxation “because I now know different ideas of relaxation.”
Young people were given packs to take home and look over in their own time. These packs included information sheets, CDs and links to relevant websites.
Young people and the staff involved really enjoyed the day. We hope there will be more events like this happening across CAMHS services in the future!
